What True Love Means to Me

I’ve always believed that some of the most profound truths in life are found in the simplest acts. Growing up in a place like Seville, where family and community are everything, you learn quickly that love isn’t just a feeling; it’s an action. It’s in the way my family tends to our olive groves, nurturing each tree for the benefit of all, or the way my parents have always put my sister and me first, no matter what. This is the essence of true love—it’s not about what you get, but what you give.

The Joy of Giving

For me, true love is a wellspring of joy that flows from giving. Think of a mother’s embrace or the way a son dedicates his time and energy to helping his parents. These aren’t acts done out of obligation but from a deep, heartfelt desire to bring happiness to others. When you give without expecting anything in return, you discover a sense of satisfaction that nothing else can replicate. It’s a love that is selfless, sacrificial, and eternally rewarding. It’s the kind of love that fueled me through my high school honors program and continues to drive my passion for helping people as a future Nurse Practitioner.

True love creates a connection that transcends time and space. When people are bound by this kind of love, they can be together forever, finding endless joy in each other’s presence. This deep attraction isn’t just for romantic partners; it’s the foundation of all meaningful relationships, from friendships to family bonds. It’s a force so powerful that it can dissolve the barriers that divide us—national borders, racial prejudices, and religious differences. This kind of love connects us all as a single human family.

The Unchanging Nature of True Love

In a world that is constantly changing, true love remains constant. It’s absolute, unique, unchanging, and eternal. This stability is what gives it its immense value. This love is a practice, a way of life lived for the sake of others. It’s not just an emotion you feel but a choice you make every day. By choosing to live this way, we align ourselves with something far greater than ourselves, sharing in a profound happiness that enriches our lives and the lives of those around us.

A Life Lived for Others

Ultimately, a life of true love is a life dedicated to serving others. It’s about putting the needs of the whole before your own. This doesn’t mean you must abandon your own life, but rather, you find your greatest fulfillment in acts of service. Whether it’s the quiet kindness of a neighbor, the tireless work of a caregiver, or the simple act of listening to a friend in need, every selfless act builds a more loving and compassionate world. It’s a journey, a path we walk together, always striving to give more than we receive.
